Srinagar, Oct 31 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday informed the Assembly that 200 units of free electricity will be provided to all AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) households under the PM Surya Ghar–Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY). Replying to a question raised by MLA Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh, the government, per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the benefit will be implemented through the RESCO/Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model. It added that 2,22,564 AAY households have been identified for rooftop solar systems of 2 kW capacity each, to generate up to 200 units of free power per month once commissioned. The Power Development Department said Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and tender processes are underway, and delays are linked to mandatory timelines for tendering and planning to ensure long-term sustainability. Responding to another query from Sheikh on imposition of flat tariff on AAY and BPL consumers in rural areas, the government said the tariff revision is part of the routine load rationalization exercise. It stated that J&K already offers one of the lowest domestic power tariffs in India, with rates starting at Rs 2.30/unit, while BPL consumers pay Rs 1.40/unit for up to 30 units. The government further said all consumers are billed as per tariff orders issued by the JERC for J&K—(KNO)
